Our Philanthropy

1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men are survivors of domestic violence.

Since 1992, Alpha Chi Omega has been dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence through its national philanthropy. This mission allows chapters across the country to make a meaningful impact by serving and uplifting those in their local communities.

The Kappa Sigma Chapter of Alpha Chi Omega is proud to partner with Domestic Abuse Family Shelter (DAFS) in Hattiesburg to support the women and children they serve. Through annual fundraisers, donation drives, and time spent volunteering, our chapter is able to provide both financial and hands-on support to this incredible organization.

Our goal is to raise awareness, inspire change, and shift the conversation surrounding domestic violence by highlighting the strength and resilience of survivors. We are committed to using our voices and our actions to create a community rooted in compassion, support, and hope.

French Fries with Alpha Chi

French Fries with Alpha Chi is one of our favorite philanthropy events, bringing our community together in a fun and welcoming way. This event allows us to raise awareness and support for survivors of domestic violence, with all proceeds going toward our philanthropic efforts. Beyond just fundraising, it creates a space for connection, conversation, and community, reminding us that even the smallest moments can make a meaningful difference. It’s a simple yet impactful way to come together, share in something joyful, and support a cause that is deeply important to our sisterhood.

Red Carnation Gala

The Red Carnation Gala is our signature philanthropy event, bringing our community together for an evening of elegance, purpose, and impact. Throughout the night, guests can participate in a raffle and enjoy a “Dancing with the Stars”-style competition featuring members of the CPC and IFC communities. A truly meaningful part of the evening is hearing from the directors of DAFS, who share powerful testimonies that bring awareness to the realities of domestic violence and the strength of those impacted. Each element of the night is designed to inspire connection and purpose while raising support for survivors. The Red Carnation Gala is not only a celebration of our sisterhood, but a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

Denim Day

Denim Day is a global movement that raises awareness about sexual violence and challenges harmful misconceptions surrounding it. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court overturned a sexual assault conviction based on what the survivor was wearing, sparking protest and advocacy against victim-blaming.

Observed on the last Wednesday of April, our sisterhood participates by wearing denim as a visible symbol of solidarity with survivors and a commitment to promoting education, respect, and healthy relationships. Through this initiative, we aim to raise awareness, support survivors, and encourage meaningful conversations within our community.
